Ingredients
Scale
For the meatballs:
- 1 pound ground beef (or half beef, half pork)
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon finely chopped parsley (optional)
For the sauce and pasta:
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 12 ounces egg noodles or pasta of choice
- Chopped parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Make the meatballs: In a bowl, combine breadcrumbs and milk. Let sit for 2–3 minutes to soak. Add ground meat, egg, allspice, nutmeg, salt, pepper, and parsley. Mix until just combined. Form into 1-inch meatballs (about 20–24).
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add a little oil. Cook meatballs in batches until browned on all sides and cooked through (internal temp 160°F). Remove and set aside.
- Make the sauce: In the same skillet, melt butter and whisk in flour. Cook for 1 minute, then gradually add beef broth while whisking. Bring to a simmer and let thicken for 3–4 minutes. Stir in cream, Worcestershire sauce, and mustard. Simmer for another 2–3 minutes, then season to taste with salt and pepper.
- Return meatballs to the sauce and simmer for 5 minutes to heat through.
- Cook pasta: While the sauce is simmering, cook the pasta according to package instructions. Drain and add to the skillet with the meatballs and sauce, tossing to coat.
- Serve warm, garnished with chopped parsley.
Notes
- You can use frozen meatballs to save time—just cook and then simmer in the sauce.
- Egg noodles are traditional, but penne or rotini work too.
