Description

These Saucy Sesame Meatballs are a flavorful twist on a classic dish, featuring tender ground chicken or turkey meatballs coated in a sticky, sweet, and savory sesame sauce. Served over steamed rice or noodles, they make a deliciously satisfying meal for any day of the week.

Meatballs:

  • 1 pound ground chicken or turkey
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 2 green onions (finely chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Sauce:

  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 2 teaspoons water

For Serving:

  • Sesame seeds
  • Sliced green onions
  • Steamed rice or noodles

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Make meatballs: In a large bowl, mix ground meat, breadcrumbs, egg, green onions, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and pepper. Form into meatballs and bake for 18–20 minutes.
  3. Prepare sauce: In a saucepan, combine soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, and simmer. Add cornstarch slurry and cook until thickened.
  4. Coat meatballs: Toss baked meatballs in sauce until coated. Serve over rice or noodles, garnished with sesame seeds and green onions.

Notes

  • Meatballs can be made ahead and frozen.
  • For a spicy version, add sriracha or chili flakes to the sauce.
