Description

For the Kafta:

  • 1 pound ground beef or lamb (or a mix)
  • 1 small onion, grated
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

For the Pan:

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 medium tomatoes, sliced
  • 1 medium onion, sliced

For the Sauce:

  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Prepare Kafta: In a large bowl, combine ground meat, grated onion, parsley, garlic, allspice, cinnamon, salt, and black pepper. Shape into small oval patties.
  3. Arrange Pan: In an oven-safe skillet, layer potato, tomato, and onion slices. Drizzle with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Place kafta patties on top.
  4. Make Sauce: Whisk together tomato sauce, water, tomato paste, and cumin. Pour over kafta and vegetables.
  5. Bake: Cover with foil and bake for 35 minutes. Uncover and bake for an additional 10–15 minutes until potatoes are tender and sauce thickens.
  6. Serve: Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
