For the Kafta:
- 1 pound ground beef or lamb (or a mix)
- 1 small onion, grated
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
For the Pan:
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
- 2 medium tomatoes, sliced
- 1 medium onion, sliced
For the Sauce:
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Prepare Kafta: In a large bowl, combine ground meat, grated onion, parsley, garlic, allspice, cinnamon, salt, and black pepper. Shape into small oval patties.
- Arrange Pan: In an oven-safe skillet, layer potato, tomato, and onion slices. Drizzle with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Place kafta patties on top.
- Make Sauce: Whisk together tomato sauce, water, tomato paste, and cumin. Pour over kafta and vegetables.
- Bake: Cover with foil and bake for 35 minutes. Uncover and bake for an additional 10–15 minutes until potatoes are tender and sauce thickens.
- Serve: Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
