Dough Ingredients
- 1 cup warm water (about 110°F)
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
For Brushing and Topping
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Activate the Yeast: In a large bowl, combine the warm water and granulated sugar, then sprinkle the active dry yeast on top. Let the mixture sit for 5–10 minutes until it becomes foamy, indicating the yeast is active.
- Make the Dough: Add the all-purpose flour, salt, and softened unsalted butter into the yeast mixture. Stir until a dough begins to form.
- Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic, which helps develop gluten for the perfect texture.
- First Rise: Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Shape the Breadsticks: Punch down the risen dough to release air. Divide it into 12 equal pieces and roll each piece into a 7-inch breadstick shape. Arrange the breadsticks on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Second Rise: Cover the arranged breadsticks and allow them to rise again for 30 minutes until puffed.
- Bake: Preheat the oven to 400°F (204°C). Bake the breadsticks for 12–14 minutes or until they turn lightly golden on top.
- Brush and Season: While the breadsticks are still warm, brush them generously with melted butter mixed with garlic powder, then sprinkle with salt to taste.
Notes
- For added flavor, consider mixing in Italian seasoning or freshly grated Parmesan cheese into the melted butter before brushing.
- These breadsticks are best enjoyed warm and fresh from the oven.
- Leftover breadsticks can be reheated in the oven to regain their softness and warmth.
