Description

These Jalapeno Cheddar Pretzel Twists are a delicious twist on traditional soft pretzels, featuring a cheesy and slightly spicy flavor. Perfect for snacking or as an appetizer, these pretzels are easy to make and will impress your guests with their unique taste.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough:

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F)
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

Filling:

  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 jalapeños, seeded and finely diced

Boiling and Finishing:

  • 1/3 cup baking soda
  • 6 cups water
  • 1 large egg, beaten, for egg wash
  • Coarse salt, for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Making the Dough: In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy. Stir in flour, salt, and melted butter, then knead on a lightly floured surface for 6–8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  2. Rising and Preparing: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size. Punch down the dough and knead in the cheddar cheese and diced jalapeños.
  3. Baking: Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper. In a large pot, bring 6 cups water and baking soda to a boil. Divide dough into 12 portions, roll each into a rope, and twist into a knot or spiral. Boil each twist for 30 seconds, then transfer to the baking sheets. Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with coarse salt.
  4. Finishing: Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until golden brown and cheesy. Cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For extra heat, leave some jalapeño seeds in or add a pinch of cayenne.
  • These twists are best enjoyed warm but can be reheated in the oven.
  • Serve with queso or ranch dip.
