These Jalapeno Cheddar Pretzel Twists are a delicious twist on traditional soft pretzels, featuring a cheesy and slightly spicy flavor. Perfect for snacking or as an appetizer, these pretzels are easy to make and will impress your guests with their unique taste.

Dough:
- 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F)
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
Filling:
- 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 2 jalapeños, seeded and finely diced
Boiling and Finishing:
- 1/3 cup baking soda
- 6 cups water
- 1 large egg, beaten, for egg wash
- Coarse salt, for sprinkling
Instructions
- Making the Dough: In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy. Stir in flour, salt, and melted butter, then knead on a lightly floured surface for 6–8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Rising and Preparing: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size. Punch down the dough and knead in the cheddar cheese and diced jalapeños.
- Baking: Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper. In a large pot, bring 6 cups water and baking soda to a boil. Divide dough into 12 portions, roll each into a rope, and twist into a knot or spiral. Boil each twist for 30 seconds, then transfer to the baking sheets. Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with coarse salt.
- Finishing: Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until golden brown and cheesy. Cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- For extra heat, leave some jalapeño seeds in or add a pinch of cayenne.
- These twists are best enjoyed warm but can be reheated in the oven.
