Ingredients

Scale

For the Bolognese Sauce:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef or a mix of beef and pork
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 carrots, finely diced
  • 2 celery stalks, finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup red wine (optional)
  • 1 (28-ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

For the Gnocchi:

  • 1 (16-ounce) package potato gnocchi
  • 1/2 cup whole milk or heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh basil or parsley, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Bolognese Sauce: Heat olive oil in a skillet, cook the ground meat, then add onion, carrots, and celery. Stir in garlic, oregano, thyme, and red pepper flakes. Add tomato paste, deglaze with red wine, then add crushed tomatoes, broth, bay leaf, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 25–30 minutes.
  2. Cook the Gnocchi: Prepare gnocchi according to package instructions. Add cooked gnocchi to the sauce.
  3. Finish the Dish: Stir in milk or cream and Parmesan until creamy. Remove bay leaf. Serve hot, garnished with basil or parsley and extra Parmesan.

Notes

  • Simmering the sauce longer enhances the flavor.
  • Store-bought or homemade gnocchi can be used. Ground turkey or chicken can be substituted for a lighter option.
