  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup long-grain white rice (jasmine or basmati)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups water or vegetable broth
  • Chopped fresh parsley or cilantro for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, heat olive oil or butter over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for 1–2 minutes until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
  2. Stir in the rice, turmeric, cumin (if using), and salt. Cook for another 1–2 minutes to lightly toast the rice and spices.
  3. Add water or broth and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15–18 minutes until the rice is tender and liquid is absorbed.
  4. Remove from heat and let sit, covered, for 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork and garnish with parsley or cilantro if desired.
