Description

Puff Pastry:

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed

Pastry Cream:

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • ¼ cup cornstarch
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter

Whipped Cream (optional):

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar
  • Powdered sugar or icing for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare Puff Pastry: Roll out the puff pastry, cut into 3 rectangles, prick with a fork, and bake until golden and crisp, about 15-20 minutes. Cool.
  3. Make Pastry Cream: Heat milk, mix yolks, sugar, cornstarch, temper with milk, cook until thickened. Add vanilla and butter, chill.
  4. Optional Whipped Cream: Whip heavy cream and powdered sugar to soft peaks, fold into chilled pastry cream.
  5. Assemble: Layer pastry and cream, finishing with pastry. Dust with sugar or icing. Chill before slicing.

  • Substitute pastry cream with whipped mascarpone for a twist.
