Ingredients
Scale
For the mushrooms:
- 1 pound button or cremini mushrooms (cleaned and stems trimmed)
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ½ cup cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- vegetable oil (for frying)
For the ranch dip:
- ½ cup sour cream
- ¼ cup mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon dried dill
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon dried parsley
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the mushrooms: Place cleaned mushrooms in a bowl, pour buttermilk over them, toss to coat, and let soak for at least 15 minutes.
- Make the ranch dip: In a small bowl, stir together all dip ingredients until smooth. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
- Coat the mushrooms: In a shallow dish, whisk flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Fry the mushrooms: Heat oil to 350°F, dredge mushrooms in flour mixture, fry for 3–4 minutes until golden and crispy.
- Serve: Drain fried mushrooms on paper towels and serve hot with chilled ranch dip.
Notes
- For extra crunch, double-dip the mushrooms: flour, buttermilk, then flour again.
- You can swap sour cream with Greek yogurt for a lighter dip version.
- Best served hot and crispy—avoid overcrowding the fryer for a crisp coating.
