Description

This creamy garlic sauce is a rich, flavorful blend of butter, garlic, cream, and Parmesan cheese, perfect for enhancing pasta, vegetables, chicken, or as a delicious dipping sauce. Made on the stovetop with simple ingredients, it’s easy to prepare and offers a smooth, velvety texture with a subtle kick from optional Italian seasonings and red pepper flakes.

Ingredients

Scale

Butter and Garlic

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced

Base Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

Cheese and Seasonings

  • 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning (optional)
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Melt Butter and Sauté Garlic: In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1–2 minutes until fragrant but not browned, infusing the butter with rich garlic flavor.
  2. Create Roux: Whisk in the all-purpose flour and cook for another minute, stirring constantly to form a roux which will thicken the sauce.
  3. Add Milk and Cream: Gradually whisk in the whole milk and heavy cream, stirring continuously to prevent lumps. Cook for 3–5 minutes until the mixture thickens into a creamy consistency.
  4. Incorporate Cheese and Seasonings: Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese, salt, black pepper, Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes if using. Cook for an additional 1–2 minutes until the cheese melts completely and the sauce is smooth.
  5. Serve Warm: Remove from heat and serve the sauce warm over your choice of pasta, steamed vegetables, grilled chicken, or as a delicious dipping sauce.

Notes

  • For a thinner sauce, add more milk gradually until desired consistency is reached.
  • For a richer sauce, substitute all milk with heavy cream.
  • This sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Reheat gently over low heat and whisk before serving to restore smooth texture.
