Description

Indulge in the deliciousness of these homemade Caramel Apple Cinnamon Rolls, perfect for breakfast or dessert. Soft, gooey rolls filled with sweet apples and topped with a decadent caramel sauce.

Ingredients

Scale

For the dough:

  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons instant yeast (1 packet)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup warm milk (110°F)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 large egg

For the filling:

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 ½ cups peeled and finely chopped apples (such as Honeycrisp or Granny Smith)

For the caramel sauce:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • pinch of salt

Optional topping:

  • Additional caramel drizzle and chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix the warm milk, melted butter, and egg. Add wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until a dough forms.

  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 6–8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. While the dough rises, mix the softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon for the filling in a small bowl.
  6. Prepare the caramel sauce by melting butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add brown sugar and stir until dissolved. Stir in heavy cream and a pinch of salt.

  7. Simmer for 2–3 minutes until slightly thickened. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  8. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a 10×15-inch rectangle.
  9. Spread the cinnamon-sugar butter evenly over the surface, then sprinkle the chopped apples on top.

  10. Roll the dough up tightly from the long side and cut into 12 even rolls.
  11. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and pour half of the caramel sauce into the bottom.
  12. Place the rolls on top of the caramel and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

  13. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown.
  14. Let the rolls cool slightly, then drizzle with the remaining caramel sauce. Top with chopped pecans if desired.

Notes
