Apples:
- 6 small apples (preferably firm varieties like Granny Smith or Fuji), stems removed
- 6 wooden sticks or lollipop sticks
Candy Coating:
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup light corn syrup
- 3/4 cup water
- 1/2 tsp red food coloring
Additional:
- Candy thermometer
- Nonstick cooking spray or parchment paper
Instructions
- Prepare Apples: Wash and thoroughly dry the apples. Insert a wooden stick into the center of each apple.
- Prepare Baking Sheet: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly grease it or use a silicone mat.
- Make Candy Coating: In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Stir until sugar dissolves. Attach a candy thermometer to the pan and boil the mixture without stirring until it reaches 300°F.
- Add Food Coloring: Remove from heat and stir in red food coloring.
- Dip Apples: Quickly dip each apple into the hot syrup, coating evenly. Let excess drip off and place on the prepared sheet.
- Cool and Serve: Allow apples to cool and harden at room temperature for 30 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Ensure apples are completely dry before dipping to prevent candy coating issues.
- For a spooky look, try using black or deep purple food coloring with edible glitter.
- Candied apples are best enjoyed the same day but can be stored at room temperature for up to 24 hours.
